Scholarship

Scholarship Project

There are six main requirements for the scholarship component of the residency program.

1. TCPS Online Ethics Tutorial

E-mail your tutorial completion certificate to your site coordinator by September 30th (for most sites).
*TCPS will be accepted if completed previously

2. SPARK at York University Academic Integrity Module

Residents must complete the modules first (found here https://spark.library.yorku.ca/academic-integrity-what-is-academic-integrity/) and then take the quiz found here https://www.yorku.ca/tutorial/quizzes/ai/nologin/ai.quiz. Email a screenshot of 100% score on the quiz to your site coordinator by Sept. 30 of your R1 year.

3. Quality Improvement Process (QI) or Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Project

This project is usually due at end of your family practice block in your first year. Email your QI or CQI to your site coordinator and your site faculty for research.

4. Resident Scholar Project

Due dates for the abstract, paper and oral presentation are listed on Resident Scholar Project timeline page. Please note, there are several intermediary steps (including submission of a proposal to your site faculty for research, submission of an ethics application to relevant REB(s)), which have associated due dates that you need to be aware of.

5. Patient Safety Module

Complete the 15 minute Post Graduate Medical Education Patient Safety Module. Unless your site has a different requirement, the deliverable is to answer the following two questions (submit answer to your site scholar faculty or other person as required by your site):

  1. What connections do you see between patient safety and high quality care?
  2. How can you contribute to a culture of safety at your workplace?

You are welcome to complete the longer modules on Patient Safety in the link above but are not required to. This 15 minute module should be completed by the end of the R1 year.

6. Participation in Site Level, and where available Program Wide EBM Learning Opportunities

Important note about usage of AI.

Generative AI Guidelines

We have developed guidelines to help guide residents in their use of Generative AI in the scholarship project process. These guidelines must be followed as a declaration around the use of Generative AI will be asked during the evaluation process. Consider these guidelines when using Generative AI for any scholarly work.
