Method and Written Report Guidelines
Expanding PIP to Resident Scholar Project in R2 Year
You may decide to expand your PIP into a project that is eligible as a Resident Scholar Project for presentation at the end of 2nd year. Eligible projects should meet all the requirements for a Resident Scholar Project (see Requirements) in addition to the following criteria.
- Evidence-based: A thorough health literature search must be undertaken to find evidence for and against the performance standard and the improvement plan. This evidence should be summarized in the written report.
- Evaluative: An evaluation of the Quality Improvement Project must be included. This means evaluating the practice before the improvement is implemented and repeating the evaluation at a reasonable time afterwards with a summary and comparison of the results.
- Ethical: Please review the checklist provided by UBC BREB. If you answer ‘yes’ to any items on the checklist, you must submit your project for research ethics board review. UBC BREB welcomes your enquiries: please contact the UBC Office of Research Services, coordinator of BREB, Maria Valente, to ask about the specific research ethics review needs of your project!
- Written report format: It should be written in the format as described for “Program Description” in the Guidelines for Types of Article, Authors and Reviewers, Canadian Family Physician.
- Oral presentation on Resident Scholar Day: 10 minutes for single projects (15 minutes for group projects) plus 5 minutes for questions.
